They are discreet and comfortable, making them a desirable choice. Invisalign used to be the only treatment, but there are several other alternatives available. SureSmile is one your dentist can offer, but is it just as effective? Here’s what to know.

Are Invisalign and SureSmile Similar?

Invisalign and SureSmile are similar in how your time with them may be. You’ll wear trays for 20 to 22 hours every day. They apply a gentle pressure on your teeth to move them into their desired positions.

To keep your progress on track, you’ll swap to a new set of aligners every week or two. You’ll also remove them to eat or drink anything other than water, so it’s important you are compliant with your routine.

How Do These Treatments Differ?

While the journey is largely the same, there are a few differences worth noting, such as:

• Included Trays: With Invisalign, you get up to five years of custom aligners, but only up to three with SureSmile. That said, the amount you need can vary depending on your orthodontic issues.
• Tray Materials: Invisalign uses a plastic called SmartTrack and SureSmile uses Essix Ace. Both are comfortable and predictable, but the latter may be more precise.
• Cost: How much your treatment will be depends on your smile, but Invisalign tends to be more expensive than SureSmile.
• Timeline: Invisalign can take six months to several years to finish. SureSmile, on the other hand, can take about 12 to 24 months. Though you might see improvements in the first three to six months.
