What Happens During a Root Canal?

Root canal therapy unfortunately possesses a bad reputation, but the truth is that it is a valuable solution that eliminates pain and restores smiles.

When preparing to undergo this type of procedure, Dr. Brandon or Dr. Malinda will begin by numbing the area around the tooth with local anesthesia. After isolating the area with a dental dam, a small opening will be created in the crown of the infected tooth. Once the decayed or damaged areas are cleared as well as the nearby canals and pulp, we will fill it with a biocompatible solution so that it seals the tooth off from bacteria and other harmful particles.

As a final step, our team often advises the placement of a dental crown over the treated tooth for structural support. We primarily use CEREC same-day technology to complete this new, custom crown with minimal waiting for the patient.
